Doctorately

Doctorately was created in May of 2019 by Tanner Eggert. It’s purpose is to share knowledge and advice acquired from experience and colleagues to endure and succeed in work and life during graduate school – arguably the most stressful period during one’s career. The goal is for Doctorately to grow to become a supportive network of graduate students and young professionals, regardless of field, publishing freely-accessible articles that benefit the community. The information and advice on this website applies to anybody looking to succeed in the workplace in general and is not limited only to graduate students. If you are interested in writing for the website, please send an email to tanner@doctorately.com.

Profile Pic Small

My name is Tanner, and I am a 23-year-old first-year graduate student in the Department of Chemistry at Princeton University. I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with a minor in mathematics at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. During my time at Northeastern, I completed a 6-month internship at Moderna Therapeutics studying RNA biochemistry. I also interned at Warp Drive Bio (now owned by Revolution Medicines) studying protein-protein interactions. I also have academic research experience in molecular biology and computational chemistry. My Ph.D. research focuses on the study of mRNA modifications – a field known as epitranscriptomics.

I was born and raised in Orlando, FL. I’m also a first-generation college student. I knew that moving away for college to pursue my undergraduate education would allow me to gain new knowledge and experiences that would not have been available to me living close to home. I’ve always been very self-motivated and driven to achieve my goals. Some of my hobbies include traveling with my girlfriend and family, exercising, cooking, gardening, and investing. After I finish my Ph.D., I want to be a scientist in the biopharmaceutical industry to gain experience and advance to an executive leadership role or start my own company.
